This week's track session is 12 efforts of 90 seconds, with 60 seconds of recovery between each effort. The efforts will be signalled with a whistle.

We will start the formal session at 7:00pm with some dynamic stretches - do a couple of warm up laps if you're ready before this. We will then do the main session. Afterwards, we will do a couple of easy laps to cool down and then some static stretching.

Group run: River Irwell
Thursday 19th September, 18:30
Y Club
Liverpool Road
Manchester
M3 4JR
Route map preview for Group run: River Irwell

We meet at the Y Club reception at 6:30pm. After a quick warm up, the Captains will gather the group together for Club Notices, after which we’ll split into sub-groups before we head off on the run.

Each group will run at a different pace and will be led by a club member, so there should always be a pace group suited to you. The number of groups is flexible depending on the number of runners down on any particular night, but we’ll generally have the following four pace groups:

- Group 1: 7.00 min / mile (4.20 min / km) +/- 30 secs

- Group 2: 7.30 min / mile (4.40 min / km) +/- 30 secs

- Group 3: 8.30 min / mile (5.20 min / km) +/- 30 secs

- Group 4: 9.30 min / mile (5.50 min / km) +/- 30 secs

If you’re not sure which group to go in on your first visit, we'd advise starting off in Group 4 and try to work your way up to the next one!

Our routes are generally 6 - 8 miles (10 - 13km) but if you don't fancy running that far, we'll always offer a shorter alternative route of approximately 3 miles (5km).

We'll head through Spinningfields and into sunny Salford, following the course of the River Irwell to "The Meadow", where we'll do a couple of laps. We'll then head across the river to Peel Park, taking a left after the bridge to the bottom of hill-rep hill, then doubling-back down along the riverside to the far end of Peel Park, before turning towards home and heading back through Peel Park, along Salford Crescent and towards the Y Club.

We will start the formal session at 7:00pm with some dynamic stretches - do a couple of warm up laps if you're ready before this. We will then do the main session. Afterwards, we will do a couple of easy laps to cool down and then some static stretching.

Our routes are generally 6 - 8 miles (10 - 13km) but if you don't fancy running that far, we'll always offer a shorter alternative route of approximately 3 miles (5km).

This week, we’ll head down the Bridgewater Canal as far as the Watch House Cruising Club (a.k.a. “The White House”); we’ll then turn off the canal and head across the Turn Moss playing fields to Longford Park, through Longford Park and then back to the Y Club past Old Trafford cricket ground and Chester Road.

A shorter route option is available by doing an “out-and-back” run down the canal; if you turn back at Throstle’s Nest it is a 5km run, turning back at “the stone bridge” makes for a 10km run.

Welsh Castles Relay
Saturday 6th June, 10:00
Caernarfon Castle
Caernarfon
LL55 2AY

The Welsh Castles Relay is a 20-stage, 200+ mile relay race between Caernarfon and Cardiff. The route passes within 2 miles of 23 Castles, 14 Forts (Roman or otherwise), 2 Mottes & Bailey and 5 Mottes. The event is a madcap logistical nightmare, ensuring runners for each stage are in the right place at the right time and... it's probably the most fun you can have running!

After a few years' absence, the Manchester YMCA Harriers are looking to enter a team for the 2020 edition of the Welsh Castles Relay. This means we need at least 20 runners who are available on the weekend of 6th-7th June, plus volunteers to drive/support as necessary.

The stages range from between 8.5 to 13.1 miles in distance, with some "mountain" stages. Each stage has a cut-off time; runners are expected to sustain a minimum pace of 9-minutes per mile regardless of the terrain or distance.

Arrangements are tentative at this stage and subject to the club being awarded a place (the race is over-subscribed), however if you want to take part, please book the date in your diary now!
