On Saturday 10 March the Manchester YMCA Harriers will be holding a Coached Training Day exclusively for our members at the Longford Park Stadium in Stretford.
Pete Williams, a UKA Level 3 Endurance coach, will deliver a session on effective training for distance events. Pete specialises in road running at all distances and is a member of Oldham and Royton Harriers. His personal best times are 5K 17:47, 10K 34:26, 10 miles 56:36, Half-Marathon 1:15, 20 miles 2:05 and marathon 2:50:25.
Pete started coaching in the early 90s and has moved up through the age groups coaching many county track and cross country champions. He currently leads his Club’s road running group of 70 runners. He is both a mentor and coach being nominated in 2016 for the Brooks Inspire Daily coaching team.
The session will be aimed at those embarking on their first distance challenge or those wanting to improve on their PB. The session will cover:
- A practical track session (so bring your kit!)
- Preparing for race day, training and organisation.
Current discussion topics include:
- Training pace and tempo
- Conditioning and injury prevention
- Question and answer session on distance running (so come armed with questions and feel free to suggest any topics you'd like to see covered on the day)
The day will last from 10:30am to 3:00pm and the cost is just £5.00.
Please do get in touch if you would like to know any more information.
You may also wish to join the Harriers in either running or marshalling at Stretford Parkrun, which starts at the Longford Park Stadium at 9:00am. If you wish to volunteer to marshal, please let us know in advance.
